Fred Collins

Fred Collins was an English professional golfer active in the early twentieth century. Born James Frederick Collins in 1878, he achieved a rare distinction by winning the Welsh Professional Championship in 1905 and again in 1933 — separated by an extraordinary 28 years. He represented England against Scotland in matches in 1903 and 1904, and posted a strong finish tied for seventh place in the 1912 Open Championship.

Beyond his playing career, Collins contributed to golf course architecture, including work at Prestatyn Golf Club in Denbighshire, Wales. While detailed documentation of his design portfolio is limited, his involvement at Prestatyn reflects the era's common practice of accomplished playing professionals consulting on course layouts and modifications.
