Emil Loeffler

Emil Frederick "Dutch" Loeffler, Jr. (1895–1948) was an American professional golfer and golf course designer active during the early-to-mid twentieth century. While details of his playing career remain limited, Loeffler made his most lasting contribution to golf through his course architecture work, particularly across western Pennsylvania.

Loeffler's portfolio demonstrates a strong regional focus, with notable designs including Nemacolin Country Club in Beallsville, Hannastown Golf Club near Greensburg, and Latrobe Country Club—the home course of Arnold Palmer. His work extended throughout the Pittsburgh area with layouts at Shannopin Country Club, Hill Crest Country Club in Lower Burrell, and Wildwood Golf Club in Allison Park. He also designed courses in neighboring communities such as Connoquenessing Country Club, Beaver Valley Golf Club, and Uniontown Country Club, as well as ventures into West Virginia with Williams Country Club in Weirton.

Loeffler's designs reflected the architectural sensibilities of the era between the two World Wars, creating courses that have endured as beloved fixtures in their communities. His legacy remains particularly strong in western Pennsylvania, where many of his layouts continue to challenge and delight golfers nearly a century after their creation.
