Donald Harradine was one of Europe's most prolific golf course architects of the 20th century, establishing a practice that shaped the development of the game across the Alps and Central Europe. Working primarily from Switzerland, he designed or contributed to well over 100 courses spanning multiple decades, with a portfolio concentrated in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, and neighboring countries.
His designs often embraced mountain and lakeside settings, adapting strategic golf to varied alpine and foothill terrain. Notable Swiss layouts include Lugano, Montreux, Bad Ragaz, and Golf & Country Club Zürich. He brought the game to new regions, including early courses in Greece such as Afandou of Rhodes and The Corfu. His German portfolio is extensive, with courses at Schloss Myllendonk, Essen-Heidhausen (Hespertal), and Oberstdorf among many others.
Harradine's approach favored playability and sensitivity to natural landscape, helping establish golf infrastructure across regions where the sport was still emerging during his active years. His work laid foundations for the continental European golf boom that followed.
