Dick Wilson

Dick Wilson (1904–1965) was a prolific mid-century American golf course architect whose work helped define championship golf across the United States. Operating primarily from the 1950s through the mid-1960s, Wilson built a reputation for creating strategic, challenging layouts that balanced playability with exacting standards for skilled competitors. His portfolio includes more than 40 courses documented in Course Vaults, spanning resort destinations, private clubs, and tournament venues.

Among his most celebrated designs are Laurel Valley Golf Club in Pennsylvania, host to major championships, and Pine Tree Golf Club in Florida, known for its demanding shotmaking requirements. Wilson's work at Royal Montreal (Blue course) and Cog Hill's Dubsdread course further demonstrated his versatility across regions and terrain types. In Florida, where he completed much of his later work, designs like Bay Hill's Champion/Challenger courses and the Blue Monster at Doral became fixtures on professional tours.
