Charles Jurgens designed golf courses on Long Island, New York, during the 1990s and early 2000s expansion of public-access golf in the region. His work focused on transforming agricultural land into playable, strategic layouts suited to the area's relatively flat terrain.
His most notable project is Cherry Creek Golf Links in Riverhead, which opened in 1996 on former potato and sod farms. The facility later expanded with The Woods at Cherry Creek across the street in 2002, giving the complex two distinct 18-hole courses. Both layouts are characterized by their links-style routing and integration of natural landforms. Jurgens also designed Heatherwood Golf Club in nearby Centereach, contributing to the growth of daily-fee golf options across Suffolk County.
Jurgens's designs reflect the practical constraints and opportunities of converting Long Island farmland into golf courses during a period of significant development in the region's golf infrastructure.
