Billy Casper

Billy Casper (1931–2015) was one of the most prolific champions in PGA Tour history, ranking seventh all-time with 51 career victories between 1956 and 1975. A San Diego native who emerged from the city's junior golf scene, Casper won three major championships and represented the United States on a then-record eight Ryder Cup teams, serving as captain in 1979. He was twice named PGA Player of the Year and won five Vardon Trophy awards for lowest seasonal scoring average.

Renowned for exceptional putting and short-game skill, Casper compensated for distance disadvantages against contemporaries like Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus through creative shot-making and superior course management. After turning 50, he remained competitive on the Senior PGA Tour through 1989, and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1978.

Design Work

In his later years, Casper successfully transitioned into golf course design and facility management. His portfolio concentrated heavily in the American Southwest and West, including both courses at Revere Golf Club in Henderson, Nevada (Concord and Lexington), Palm Valley in Las Vegas, and numerous layouts across Arizona retirement communities. Other designs span from California to Texas, Idaho, and internationally to Guam and Japan.
