Bert F. Coghill

Bert F. Coghill was an early-20th-century golf course architect whose work is represented in the Chicago area. While detailed biographical records are sparse, his contribution to Illinois golf is preserved through his design at Cog Hill Golf and Country Club in Lemont.

Coghill designed the #2 Ravines course at Cog Hill, one of the facility's original layouts. This course predates the more famous Dubsdread (#4) course that later brought the complex to national prominence. The Ravines showcases the rolling terrain characteristic of the southwestern Chicago suburbs, offering a different character from Cog Hill's championship layout.

Little documentation exists about Coghill's broader career or other projects, making the Ravines course a significant surviving example of his design philosophy and approach to routing golf holes through natural landforms.
