Ben Wihry worked primarily in Kentucky and southern Indiana, designing public and private courses during the mid-20th century. His portfolio includes Charlie Vettiner Golf Course and Sun Valley Golf Course in Louisville, along with Elk Run in Jeffersonville, Indiana, just across the Ohio River. He also contributed to layouts at Danville Country Club and Hunting Creek Country Club in the Prospect area.
Wihry's designs served municipal and country club golfers throughout the region, offering accessible golf during an era of steady growth in public course development. His work reflects the straightforward design sensibilities common to many regional architects of his time, prioritizing playability and maintenance practicality over dramatic features.
Though not widely known outside the Kentucky–Indiana corridor, Wihry's courses remain active parts of their communities, providing everyday golf for local players.
