Albert Warren Tillinghast

Albert Warren "Tillie" Tillinghast (1876–1942) was one of the most prolific and influential architects in golf history, having worked on more than 265 courses during his career. His impact on American golf course design was so significant that he was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2015.

Tillinghast was a central figure in the "Philadelphia School" of architecture, alongside notable contemporaries including William Flynn, George C. Thomas Jr., Hugh Wilson, George Crump, and William Fownes. This group collectively designed over 300 courses, with 27 among the world's most celebrated layouts. The Philadelphia School's approach emphasized strategic design, natural terrain integration, and courses that challenged skilled players while remaining playable for others.
